League Policies

Revised League Policies

  • Red cards—Lynn (league commissioner) will determine the extent of punishment after conferring with captains, referees, and witnesses. An accumulation of 3 yellow cards in the season by a single player will be addresssed with the player and the captains and could result in some disciplinary action.
  • Rosters, Release form for each player ( name, address and birth date should be included on the form), and the fee will be required at first game.
  • Slide tackles are legal.
  • Captains are responsible for controlling their players. If you see a situation developing on the field between players, remove your player immediately.
  • NO WALK-ONS ALLOWED. All players MUST have paid their fee to a captain, and MUST have paid their insurance, and MUST be included on a roster before they can play for any team. If a player wants to play for two teams on a regular basis, then he must pay two fees and be included on both rosters (insurance fee is only paid once).
  • Any team needing to pick up players to field 11 will ask the opposing captain if it is ok, but again, for insurance purposes, the player must be registered in the league.
Age

The Adult League in Roanoke is a coed adult league. Eligible male and female participants must be over 18 years of age at the start of any season.

Teams

The following teams comprise the Roanoke Valley Adult Soccer League (many of these teams are referred to by their respective jersey color):

  • Green
  • White
  • Black
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Manchester United (burgundy jersey)
  • Martinsville (blue jersey)
  • Forza FC (navy blue jersey)
  • VMI
  • Silver

Also, fees are around $1100 (per team) for a season (this amount is subject to change from season to season).

Seasons

The Adult League plays year round with individual seasons divided between Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. The Winter season is played indoors but the other three are played outdoors.

Game Times

Games will be played at the dates and times listed on the schedule at the start of each season. Games will consist of two forty minute halves.

Officiating

Teams must be ready to play at game time. We will have 3 certified referees present, and they will start the clock at game time. Please report to the league commissioner every time a game is short a referee or linesman. This results in a deduction in fee paid to the assignor of referees, and we save money.

Referee Fees

Referee fees are $45 center, $30 each line. Two man system - $35 each. If only one referee, use club linesmen and pay him/her $50. Assignor of referees is included under entities to pay from the collected fees.

Red and Yellow Cards

If a player accumulates 4 yellow cards in a season, he will sit out the next two games his team plays, and he cannot play for another team during that suspension. If a player receives a red card, he will be suspended from playing the next two games scheduled for his team; and he cannot play for any other team during that period. If he plays for his team or another team during the period of suspension, he will be suspended for an additional two games.

Substitute Players

If you have fewer than 13 of your own players for a game, you can recruit other players. Please be fair and consult with the opposing captain before picking up players.

Team and Player Fees

Team fees are $1100 per team. The fees are intended to cover the officials, rental of the fields from Roanoke City, insurance, and league sanctioning. Additionally, new players must pay an insurance fee of $20. All fees are due at the start of each season.

Responsibility for Field Lights

Captains, each of you should still have your set of light keys from last season. You will need those to turn the lights on and off. Please check to be sure you know where they are prior to your first game. Let our League Commissioner hear from you right away if you have lost them. Communicate with the opposing captain, and be sure the lights get turned off before leaving the field each night.

Goal Keepers

Teams can use ANYONE they choose for keeper. Keepers can be shared by teams. You can use a different keeper every game. No team should have to play without a keeper. If a team does not have a regular keeper (as most of us don't), let the opposing captain know who you are using as keeper. Goal keepers must be over 18 and a registered player with one of the teams.

Substitute Players

If a team has fewer than 13 players at game start time, that team can pick up players from the sidelines. If there are players available from the league who have paid, use them first. If there are no paid players available, then you can use others who might be available. Out of courtesy, please notify the opposing captain. If your players show up later, then discontinue using the pick-up players. I know this is hard to do after inviting someone to play. Your best plan is to have your own team ready to play at game time.

Forfeit

If at the start of your game, you or the other team have forfeited because of lack of players (you must have 7 to start without forfeiting), then make sure that everyone knows - both teams, captains, and referees.

Roster

Each captain should provide an updated roster ASAP after the season starts to Lynn Cochrane.
