League Mourns the Untimely Death of Robert Mattingly

The captain of the Martinsville Team, Robert Mattingly, passed away after his team’s game on Sunday of a massive heart attack. His obituary is below.  Please keep his wife and family in your prayers.

Robert Dean Mattingly, 34, of 10921 East Lynchburg-Salem Turnpike, Forest, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Georgia on Oct. 21, 1973, to Harold and Diane Mattingly of Sanford, N.C.

He graduated from Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in business and was employed as operations manager for FWC Trucking in Lynchburg.

He played soccer with the Martinsville Men’s Soccer Team, The Old Martins.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Tina D. Mattingly of the home; a son, Harley D. Mattingly of North Carolina; a stepson, Robert LaPrade of Martinsville; two brothers, Randall Mattingly of Cary, N.C., and Richard Mattingly of Forest; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Norris Funeral Services in Martinsville. The Rev. Tom Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today, and other times at the home of his mother-in-law, Phyllis McReynolds, 1502 Kenmar Drive, Martinsville.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Piedmont Youth Soccer League, 127 East Church St., Martinsville, Va. 24112.
